Scrumptious Sausage with Country Gravy and Biscuit Casserole

Story

On Easter morning, my daughter who is home from college wanted me to “whip” up a breakfast before church. Knowing what a busy week we had and that I did not plan anything as I normally do, I went to Pinterest for inspiration. If you are not on Pinterest, you really should be for nothing other than recipe inspiration. I, as said before seldom follow a recipe exactly. It must be in my DNA, as my mom never did either. So I went to our fridge/freezer and searched for ingredients. I always have JR breakfast sausage on hand in the freezer. By the way, you should too! You can do so many things with it! Next, I usually have Grands biscuits and/or crescent rolls on hand as well. Again, so many different recipes using these items for any meal. This is what I came up with!

Ingredients

Ingredients needed for Scrumptious Sausage with Country Gravy and Biscuit Casserole:

Herb Butter

  • 1 lb. J & R Meat Co. country sausage
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 c. milk or half and half
  • 1 tube Grands biscuits
  • 1-2 c. shredded cheese, your preference
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 c milk
  • J & R Meat Co. seasoning

Directions

  1. Brown sausage over medium heat
  2. While sausage is browning, cut the biscuits in quarters and layer into a greased 11 x 13 casserole dish.
  3. Layer shredded cheese over the biscuits.
  4. When sausage is done browning, drain grease and place back over medium heat.
  5. Sprinkle flour over sausage and mix well.
  6. Pour the 1 1/2 c. milk or half and half over sausage and bring to a soft boil.
  7. Simmer over low heat until thickened.
  8. Season with J & R Meat Co seasoning. Our seasoning is the perfect flavor for this gravy!
  9. While the gravy is thickening, whisk the eggs and 1/2 c. milk, season as desired.
  10. Pour the egg mixture over the biscuits and cheese.
  11. After gravy has thickened pour the gravy over biscuits, cheese, and egg.
  12. Bake at 350º for 30-40 min. Egg will be set but gravy is still nice and moist.
